ESSENTIAL OILS - An Introduction and Why
by Lynell Beckstrom
Years ago when I opened a center for healing in Orem, Utah called-"Light, Energy, Love and Associates," it was my dream at the time to create a gathering place. A place that felt really cool and good and people wanted to come and learn about the fun "woo-woo" stuff out there, for example-herbs, tuning forks, drumming circles, Rapid Eye Technology, Reiki, etc. I did not have many resources at the time and my cousin Marion Baxter and I thought it would be really awesome to invite other practioners of all kinds from different healing modalities to come in and rent the space (of course they had to let us attend free). That way we could pay the rent and have a good time! Marion found this office space in the upper level of a building located in quite an industrial area-the outside was "iffy" but we loved the space and fixed it up quite well with our mish mash of the weird and unusual!
I share this with you because it's where my journey with essential oils began. Marion deserves the credit for introducing me into the world of aromatherapy and there have been many times over the years that I have blessed her name for it. That rash on my two-year old that just wouldn't go away even with repeated visits to the doc, was gone after one day of applying Lavender oil; and my strep throat that disappeared when I put one drop of Thieves oil on my toothbrush and really thought I'd burned the heck out of my mouth and boom-strep gone!! That moment of seeing God was worth it! These experiences and many others took me to the place of firm believer and I began a wonderful journey of self-empowerment by learning how to take care of me, my family, and my clients.
So Marion knew that I had a bad addiction and she played on it. I call myself a workshop/seminar junkie, but the sweetheart message in that is that I just love to learn new stuff! All kinds of new stuff, like NLP, EFT, hypnotherapy, herbology, and experience those seminars-Life Springs, Impact, The Forum, The Course-wow, what a 25 year ride! Out of all the addictions there are, I guess I'm glad I have this one. Marion knew this about me, and so one thing led to another and we began going to hear Dr. Gary Young speak back in the late 80's, and with the experiences I've shared above-yup, I became an essential oils addict!
Over the years as I've moved more into training others and less one-on-one, it's still Rapid Eye and Essential Oils that I still love to do with the individual. They go together for me like pancakes and maple syrup. Just good stuff! I love being a healer, I love walking the journey of self-discovery with others and I love the wonder that comes into people's eyes when they get it that pain and suffering need be no more. It's the best thing since sliced bread..so read on friend, check out the good news about Essential Oils and the possibilities! Love and Light-Lynell Beckstrom
Why.
I heard Dr. Gary Young compare the blood of man with essential oils. The blood tests from a newborn infant and those of a senior citizen have the same beautiful red and white blood cells with perfect blood chemistry. The senior citizen's hearing, eyesight, equilibrium, skin, and muscles have diminished with age. Yet, we can use a transfusion of the senior citizen's blood to give life to a child. The tissue may be old and weak, but the blood is alive and strong. Essential oils are similar.
Some say essential oils were first used in China or India, but research indicates that the Egyptians were first to discover the therapeutic potential of essential oils. Translations of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics and Chinese manuscripts describe how priests and physicians used essential oils thousands of years before the time of Christ. There are over 100 references to aromatics in the Bible. Biblical prophets appear to have recognized that essential oils protected their bodies from disease. Why did the Wise Men bring the precious substances of Frankencense and Myrrh to the Christ child? Oils for medicinal purposes were used long before the individual herbs were studied for medical use.

How do you define the power of life force? Although essential oils have been used for thousands of years, only now has science developed the ability to research them on a cellular level. C. Norman Shealy, M.D., Ph.D., wrote that "Quantum physicists have confirmed the reality of the basic vibratory essence of life." He also noted that "life energy is not static; it is kinetic." Beside the power of their life force and vibration, essential oils have healing benefits derived from their chemistry. Some constituents of the oils, such as the aldehydes found in Lavender and Chamomile, are calming. Eugenol found in Cinnamon and Clove is antiseptic and stimulating. Ketones found in Lavender, Hyssop, and Patchouli, stimulate cell regeneration and liquefy mucus. Sesquiterpenes, predominant in Vetiver and Sandalwood, are soothing to inflamed tissue. In 1994 sesquiterpenes were found to go beyond the blood-brain barrier, increasing oxygen around the pineal and pituitary glands. This list goes on and on, and to top if off, essential oils are fast acting. When applied to the feet, they can travel throughout the body and affect the cells, including the hair, within 20 minutes. The effects of a single application may last for up to five months; yet because of their volatility and high evaporation rate, essential oils do not accumulate in the body. Because of the chemical structure, essential oils are metabolized in the cells like other nutrients.
With increasing pollution of air, water, and soil, we see plants degenerate, their fiber becoming thick, and their color becoming weak. Yet we see in the essential oil chemistry the same strong, vital life force it had 1,000 years ago. The essential oil still carries the ability to regenerate, protect, and sustain life. They reach deep into the recesses of our brain, cross over the chemical barriers, and open the hidden channels within our minds and bodies, allowing us to reach our potential.
It is time that we take responsibility for our own health and well-being. Everyday use of essential oils works. I use them personally, and in my therapy practice. I love the fact that there are oils that assist in emotional release work, not just physical ailments. I say RIGHT ON and about time we feel empowered to live healthy lives and that old scriptural reference made to "Man is that he might have joy," start coming true. Now is the time to feel joy, be healthy, be prosperous and LIVE.
